Offline & connectivity
Verse is offline-first: once it's set up, a service never depends on your Wi-Fi. This page explains what works offline and how to read the connectivity indicator.
What works without a network
- Scripture :every installed translation is stored locally, so reading and projecting verses is instant and fully offline.
- Lyrics, media, and slides :your local library and imported media need no connection.
- Transcription & detection :with Whisper and Offline mode (and optionally local AI via Ollama), listening and verse detection run entirely on your machine.
What needs a connection
- Downloading new Bible translations or searching online for songs.
- The faster Fast transcription (online) path, under Settings → AI.
- Cloud Content Studio generation (the local Ollama path works offline).
- Periodically revalidating your license (see the grace window below).
The connectivity indicator
The top bar shows a connectivity indicator:
- Green :connected; settings and license checks are live.
- Yellow :degraded or running from cached data.
- Red :offline. Verse keeps working from local data.
License grace window
When a device activates, it receives a token valid for 90 days and keeps a rolling 30-day heartbeat. If your machine can't reach the licensing server, Verse keeps working for 30 days from the last successful check — so a bad connection on Sunday is never a problem. The full model is in Licenses and seats.
