Licenses and seats

A license is the billing-level entitlement your organization holds. Each license carries a seat_count — the number of devices that can activate concurrently against it.

Seats and devices

When the desktop app binds to a license key, Verse creates a seat: a (license, device) pair backed by an activation token. The token is valid for 90 days; the desktop app rotates it via a heartbeat that keeps the seat fresh for 30 days at a time.

If a seat goes silent for 30 days (no heartbeat), it becomes eligible for reclamation — the next activation under the same license will replace it. This lets you safely retire a laptop or swap to a new device without an admin step.

Force-deactivating a device

From Portal → Devices, you can force-deactivate any device on your org's licenses. The seat is freed immediately; the desktop app loses access on its next revalidation (or after the 30-day offline grace expires).

Rotating a license key

If a key is exposed, head to Portal → Licenses and click Rotate key. The new key replaces the old one immediately. Existing devices continue working under their current activation tokens until the next revalidation — at which point they'll need to re-bind with the new key. Distribute the new key to your team via your usual channels.

Billing cycles

Licenses bill monthly or annually in your chosen currency. Cycle changes (monthly ↔ annual) and plan upgrades are managed through Paystack for now; in-portal billing is coming soon.
